I’ve been looking for a job for almost six months now. Most people would be saying:

Luckily, you live in the UK! There is a job seekers system for you!

And, although, that is true – it’s also one of the worst systems this country seems to have.

Let me explain – people on Universal Credit, trying to find a job, have to wait a minimum of 6 weeks before receiving payment. Which, I don’t know about you – but it sounds like bullshit. Doesn’t it?

It’s quite common for people to get into debt while working, whether it’s because of low wage or poor budgeting skills. So, why do they expect people to be able to wait 6 weeks without any money?

Well, it seems like it will soon be changing. The problem is, will it change for the better or the worse? We’re hoping for the better.

The scheme has caused more poverty in the UK than solved it. One woman even had to sell her possessions in order to keep afloat. And I can’t deny it, I’ve had to do it, too.

There is a way of getting credit extended to you while waiting for money, but the problem is – you do that and you lose a certain amount over the next 6 or so months.

So, the solution they give you is – get in debt with them or get in debt elsewhere.

Nice to know…

The Archbishop of York has called for the time to be reduced, so hopefully, it will happen…
