Hi lovelies!

Anyone know what electrolytes are? They’re the things that help create energy to keep your body running alongside carbohydrates which your body breaks down into various forms of sugar. Electrolytes are often found in a lot of sports drinks among other things, like coconut water for instance.

Sports drinks are usually geared towards people who exercise a lot, hence being labelled ‘sports drinks’, however they are also good for when you’re sick, have headaches or migraines, or for the morning after you’ve been out drinking and have a hangover.

My sister had a migraine today while my mother and I had bad headaches, so I went looking online for home remedies before we went for a quick walk to the shops to pick up some fruit and the like. While I was looking online I came across a recipe for homemade electrolyte drinks. When we got home it was the first thing I made (after resting my feet) and then fed to my sister; and it really did help…she’d had that migraine for about six days and now it’s mostly gone, just downgraded into a bad headache. Anyway, I have a recipe for the drink…it’s different to the one I found online but still similar enough that I’ll add a link to the website as a source at the bottom of the article for those interested (I’d rather not get in trouble, lol). The ingredients are as follows:

¾ c freshly squeezed orange juice
¼ c freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ c coconut water
2 c cold water
2 tbsp honey
¼ tsp sea/rock salt

Method:

Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl or blender until honey has dissolved. Pour into a bottle and into the fridge to chill before serving or serve with ice immediately.

Alternative fruits such as limes or strawberries and the like can also be used to make different flavours; the drink can also be halved or doubled as you like. This drink is great for rehydrating and helping headaches/migraines to subside as well as helping deal with hangovers. It is completely gluten free and vegetarian; taste-wise, it’s similar to Gatorade just without the extras. Enjoy!

I hope you’ll all get some use out the recipe and enjoy it as much as I do. Take care!

Love,
Kyrena x
